RI Governor Out Of Quarantine, Tests Negative For Coronavirus

PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo is out of coronavirus quarantine. The governor tested negative each day of her self-isolation and was cleared to return to the public on Friday, she said. Raimondo went into quarantine Saturday after Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, the director of the Rhode Island Department of Health, tested positive for coronavirus. Alexander-Scott's case was asymptomatic and found through routine surveillance testing. On Friday, Raimondo said Alexander-Scott is still self-isolating at home, and has not developed any symptoms. Earlier this week, Josh Block, the governor's press secretary, said he and all of Alexander-Scott's close contacts tested negative for the coronavirus. These include Raimondo, Commerce Secretary Stephen Pryor and Dr. Philip Chan, who is a leader in the state's vaccination effort. All of Dr. Alexander-Scott's close contacts -- including @GovRaimondo, Secretary Pryor, Dr. Chan, and myself -- have tested negative. Masks work.
