RI Philharmonic, Providence Singers To Perform Handel's 'Messiah'

PROVIDENCE, RI — The Rhode Island Philharmonic is getting into the holiday spirit with a time-honored tradition: Handel's "Messiah." The collaborative performance will include the Providence Singers and a quartet of international soloists. Known best for the Hallelujah Chorus, the piece is a classic holiday standby. This year marks the 13th anniversary of its performance in Providence. The concert will be held on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at The Vets in Providence. The orchestra and Providence Singers will be joined by four soloists: soprano Andriana Chuchman, alto Marion Newman, tenor Isaiah Bell and bass Gregory Dahl. The Providence Singer's Artistic Director, Christine Noel, will conduct the concert. "I always look forward to this time of year when the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Providence Singers join together for this powerful message of faith," Noel said. "It will be a glorious occasion and continue to showcase the new heights Maestro Tovey is leading the Orchestra to as Artistic Advisor. He has assembled an incredible quartet of soloists who will perform together for the first time in Rhode Island! We are excited to present their immense talent to our wonderful audience this holiday season." Tickets to the one-night-only performance are available on The Vets' website, ranging from $15 to $119 for orchestra or balcony level seats. "The talent assembled on-stage this year brings a new level of excitement to this year's Messiah," said David Beauchesne, the Philharmonic's executive director. "We know that classical music fans circle this performance date on their calendars every year. As we celebrate the Orchestra's 75th season, we expect this to be our most in-demand Messiah ever."
