SAN CLEMENTE, CA — A warning went out to Orange County residents, alerting of a possible scam inspired by the new coronavirus. According to reports, scammers are pitching everything from coronavirus treatment or cures to work-at-home related schemes. All should be hung up on, police say. "Ignore online offers for vaccinations, special cleaning supplies, medical supplies and in home test kits," they said. Also, prepare to fact check before donating money to anyone during this time, police advised. All crowdfunding sites, online sellers and charities should be double-checked before any donations are made. There are no products online or in stores to treat coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. A hotline was set up by the Orange County District Attorney's office in order to assist any resident who has been victimized by the scam. On Robocalls, remember not to press any numbers, Laguna Beach Police said over Facebook. The Orange County District Attorney Coronavirus Scam Hotline is (714) 834-3482. Reports can also be emailed to [email protected] District Attorney investigators are investigating every report provided to the Orange County District Attorney's Office regarding a COVID-19 – related scam. When reporting a suspected scam, members are asked to provide the following information: the name of the individual or business they are reportinga description of the conductthe address or city where the individual or business is locateda contact number for the person reporting the conductThe reporting party may remain anonymous, but it is important to provide a contact number as District Attorney investigators may need additional information to investigate the conduct. This information will not be shared outside of the District Attorney's Office.
