HOBOKEN, NJ — It took five days, but media outlets reported on Saturday that former Vice President Joe Biden had received enough electoral votes to become the next president of the United States. President Donald Trump Tweeted Saturday that he would challenge the legality of the votes. In New Jersey, residents reacted on social media and in person, with some in Hoboken banging pots and pans from waterfront condos on Saturday afternoon when the news spread. In the presidential race on Tuesday, according to an unofficial Tuesday night tally by the county Board of Elections, three quarters of Hudson County voters who chose a president, 130,018, voted in favor of President-Elect Joe Biden. Another 39,751 voters picked President Donald Trump for re-election. In addition, 718 voted for Libertarian Jo Jorgensen and about 1,000 voted for other candidates or a write-in. Among the public questions, the vote in favor of statewide marijuana legalization — Public Question 1 — passed statewide. In Hudson County, it passed by a vote of 108,318 to 41,242. The "Yes" vote captured 72 percent of the Hudson County electorate, similar to the Biden vote.In Hoboken, three companies are hoping to open marijuana dispensaries. READ MORE: Weed Wars In Hoboken.
