Driver Killed, 4 Injured In Weekend Cranston Crash

CRANSTON, RI — One person was killed and four others were hospitalized in a crash in Cranston over the weekend. The person who died was identified as 35-year-old Julian Alba, of Cranston. The crash happened at 8:19 p.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Scituate Avenue and Council Rock Road. Two vehicles were involved: a 1991 Nissan 300z and a 2020 Ford Edge. Two men were in the Nissan and three men were in the Ford. Alba was driving the Nissan and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His passenger, a 40-year-old man from New Jersey, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he is in critical condition. The passengers of the Ford, who are from Warwick, West Warwick and Johnston, were also taken to the hospital with broken bones and later released. According to police, Alba was driving east on Scituate Avenue and speeding at the time of the crash. When he reached the curve in the road at Sweet Pea Drive, he swerved across the yellow lines, heading the wrong way up the westbound lane. He swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, lost control of his vehicle and hit the Ford head-on.
