Join the Fat Dog Team! Fat Dog Shellfish is an oyster farm located in Great Bay, New Hampshire. Founded in 2011, Fat Dog cultivates a line of premium oysters that is sold to raw bars and seafood retailers throughout the Northeast and the country. Fat Dog is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager to help lead the production of oysters at our primary sites in Durham, NH and assist with the development of new cultivation practices at our expanding site in Newington. Fat Dog operates out of Great Bay Marine, a full service marina in Newington, NH (just outside of Portsmouth). Duties The Assistant Farm Manager will help lead a field crew that completes all aspects of oyster production. These include cultivating and deploying seed, tumbling, grading and restocking oysters, culling oysters for sale, and assisting with record keeping. This position will help supervise a summer field crew, typically 2-3 Farm Techs. This position will be responsible for operating boats and associated machinery and will generally assist with the development and implementation a daily work plan in coordination with the Farm Manager. Limited driving for deliveries may also be required. Qualifications The Assistant Farm Manager must demonstrate a comfort level and experience working on and operating boats. The Fat Dog fleet incudes a 22 foot pontoon boat, a 17 foot Carolina Skiff, and several floating work platforms. The Assistant Farm Manager will be required to operate these on their own with field crew aboard. The holder of this position must possess a Coast Guard certified boater safety certificate (required for piloting boats in NH). Oyster farming experience is strongly preferred but not required if boat operation requirements are met. At a minimum, the applicant must demonstrate a keen interest in shellfish aquaculture and an eagerness to learn and implement our growout techniques. The applicant must have experience doing physical labor. Work Schedule This is a full time/seasonal position that will run from April through December. The Assistant Farm Manager will work 5-6 days/week. Weekend work is a must. This is a permanent position. To Apply Please send resume and letter of interest
