PROVIDENCE, RI — Roger Williams Park Zoo welcomed another newborn last week. The zoo announced the arrival of a Chilean flamingo chick, the first to hatch there in more than two decades. It's been 22 years since a flamingo hatched at the zoo. Both mother and chick are doing well, the zoo said. Although flamingos are known for their signature pink coloring and curved bills, chicks hatch with downy, white feathers and a straight bill. Chicks are cared for by both parents, who feed it "crop milk," a fluid they produce in their digestive systems. HELLO LITTLE FLOOF! We are happy to share a Chilean flamingo chick has hatched. This now five-day old chick is a historical birth for our Zoo; the first flamingo born at RWPZoo in 22 years. Mom is doing a great job tending to her little one. pic.twitter.com/8LmOMyScOQ— Roger Williams Park Zoo (@RWPZoo) October 5, 2020 Roger Williams Park Zoo: Read more Despite Pandemic Struggles, Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular Lives On2020 Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular To Be Drive-ThroughRoger Willams Park Zoo Scales Down Hours Due To Coronavirus
