Description
A widespread Verizon service outage was reported across Rhode Island Tuesday morning. Outage monitor Downdetector showed the outage covering nearly the entire state.
A spokesperson for Verizon said the issue was caused by a "fiber cut and hardware failure," which led to a service disruption. It was fixed and service restored by noon.
The website's outage graph showed a major spike in outages starting around 10 a.m., spiking from none to 512. The map, meanwhile, showed red, or a more severe outage, covering most of the state.
" I can't dial out either since this morning. I'm in Johnston....what is going on????" one commenter wrote.
"I am in North Kingstown I cannot dial out since around 9:00 a.m.," another said.
