MY MUSIC
https://everydaygrey.carrd.co
ABOUT ME
- 19 y/o, taking break from college.
- Lifetime classically-trained musician with strong understanding of music theory.
- 9 yrs guitar experience, ~4 yrs jazz guitar.
- I prefer rhythm, but I can do lead too.
- Lifetime casual vocalist, some coaching more recently.
- Also a synth nerd. I have 3 pocket operators (rhythm, sub, arcade) and a korg volca keys.
- I also produce (Ableton) and have a fairly sophisticated home studio upstate, a 2 hour drive/bus ride from NYC.
LOOKING FOR
- Existing band OR members to start one, any instruments, basically any ages;
- People to help me perform my compositions; I will do the same for you
- A group of cool folks to jam and gig with
- Manhattan preferred, not a dealbreaker though.
MUSIC I LIKE
Rock/pop:
- Julian Casablancas; I prefer the Voidz to the Strokes; I also prefer the Strokes' newer stuff, FIOE onwards, to their first 2 albums. I've had enough of indie rock (I don't hate it, just sick of it).
- Bloc Party's first 3 albums; the "angular" post-punk of Silent Alarm, the gloomy vibes of AWITC, and the raw, self-indulgent synth punk of Intimacy.
- The Spotify playlist "Garage Rock Revival;" bands like Metric, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc.
- Post punk "classics" like the Cure, Sonic Youth, Gang of 4; I prefer New Order to Joy Division.
- Also a huge Tally Hall fan, but less because of their style and more because they legit make great music
Everything else
- Bloghouse/New Rave: Hot Chip, Metronomy, Thieves Like Us, !!!, Simian Mobile Disco
- Classic house/techno (I don't know any artists, I just like the vibes)
- 90s jazz rap (Digable Planets, Tribe, Pharcyde); Afro-Futurism (Brooklyn Funk Essentials, P-funk)
- Vulfpeck!!!! Also Louis Cole/KNOWER
- Jazz: big band swing (Basie), Brazilian (bossa, samba), Afro-cuban, Afro-beat
- Soft folky acoustic (Dispatch, Theo Katzman) and indie pop (Death Cab for Cutie)
- Dream pop to cry to (Barrie, Beach House)
