SEASONAL GARDENER Seasonal Full-Time Start Date: early April thru December Compensation: Based on experience BELLA GARDENS is a boutique landscaping company transforming NYC rooftops, backyards, and common spaces into sustainable, luxurious gardens that exceed expectations. Our passion for plants also carries into interior spaces, using indoor plants and flowers for custom floral arrangements and high-end events that harmonize both interiors and exterior spaces. We seek a seasonal gardener to join our vibrant group of professionals who can maintain and cultivate healthy plants in various settings, including rooftops, backyards, containers, tree pits, and terrace gardens. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Demonstrate a vital work ethic, effectively executing plant care tasks (like weeding and watering). Gardeners should be cheerful, respectful, show initiative, and support team members. Display clear and professional communication skills with other team members and clients. Perform all aspects of plant maintenance and horticultural skills without direction, including but not limited to planting, pruning, deadheading, weeding, mulching, irrigating, mowing, installing, and taking down holiday decor, plant and disease identification and management, and cleaning/sweeping. Hand-water outdoor plants in containers without an automatic irrigation system. Demonstrate the ability to safely operate all tools and equipment properly and maintain them for consistent use such as lawnmower, blower, string trimmer, pole pruners Be responsible for selecting the appropriate tools, supplies, and machinery for the job site each day. Maintain quality while increasing efficiency. Assist the Lead Gardener in all necessary tasks to complete a job (i.e., load/unload trucks, move material, install and maintain landscapes) QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS 1+ years experience in landscaping, gardening, farming, horticulture, or other related fields. General knowledge or experience of garden installations, maintenance, and landscape design. Able to identify most plants in planting zones 4-10 and their growth habits, bloom times, training requirements, and preferred soil types is a bonus. Attention to details and future needs of the premises and work accordingly while communicating these needs with the team. Works efficiently independently and/or collaborating with a team. Is always on time and responsible. Having an OSHA safety certification or ability to obtain one in the next 6 months is a plus Is comfortable and able to work on rooftops, near ledges, and at various heights while wearing appropriate safety gear when needed. Can lift 50 lbs. repeatedly and squat, kneel, bend over, reach for extended periods and walk up and downstairs. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is a plus (not necessary). Must be capable of traveling to various job sites in the NYC area via public transportation, work vehicle, or walking in some instances.
