THE CONIFERS– This is one in a series of genus-specific tree-tours sponsored by The Dendro Lab-NYC in Central Park We've all heard of pines, spruces, and firs. Now let's learn to easily tell them apart, including a few additional pines from Europe and Asia. We will also cover a few members of the cypress family, like juniper (never to be called "cedar" again), bald cypress, and the famous dawn redwood – all of which are conifers, or cone-bearing. Please note: Meeting spot is across the street from the American Museum of Natural History at the bronze bust of Alexander Von Humboldt at CPW and West 77th Street This entrance to the park is aptly called "Naturalists' Gate." About your guide: Carey is a professional photographer and filmmaker whose first love is natural history.
