Reserve a Plein Air Painting on the Grounds of the 1859 Ashton Villa Each year, Plein Air Southwest invites artists from around the country to participate in the annual juried competition of their art. As part of that event this year we are excited to offer a limited number of reservations for an alla prima portrait sitting on the grounds of Ashton Villa. These are first-come, first-served and details will be shared with the purchaser closer to the date. Individuals sitting for the painting are welcome to wear whatever they choose (costume, uniform, modern, Victorian, casual, etc.) The artists on hand will select which model/setting/size they wish to paint and at the end of the session the model will pick their selected portrait they like best. Alla prima refers to a direct painting approach where paint is applied wet on wet without letting earlier layers dry. In Italian, the term alla prima means "at first attempt".
