SAN CARLOS, CA — The report of a suspicious person entering the backyards of multiple residences in San Carlos Monday morning led to the arrest of a homeless man, authorities said. Gary Dekker, 44, was arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia (a misdemeanor) and an alleged parole violation (a felony), the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Deputies responding to the report of suspicious activity in the 100 block of Montgomery Street at about 10:30 a.m. located a person who matched the suspect description they later identified as Dekker, but he ran away after deputies tried to contact him. Dekker was found in the 400 block of Industrial Road after a search of the area. Deputies searched his property and found him to be in possession of a used methamphetamine pipe, authorities said. Dekker was not found to be in possession of any burglary tools or stolen property located in his possession and a check on multiple Montgomery Street residences revealed no evidence of a burglary or any other crime.
