The London House, Katherine Reay’s newest novel, revolves around how uncovering a dark family secret sends one woman through the history of Britain’s World War II spy network and glamorous 1930s Paris to save her family’s reputation. Reay is the national bestselling and award-winning author of Dear Mr. Knightley, Lizzy and Jane, The Brontë Plot, A Portrait of Emily Price, The Austen Escape, and The Printed Letter Bookshop. All Katherine’s novels are contemporary stories with a bit of classical flair. Charleston resident Gervais Hagerty’s brilliant and atmospheric debut novel, In Polite Company, is a captivating story of a contemporary young woman navigating the expectations of family, the traditions of Charleston’s elite, and the fierce pull of her own heart. It takes a nuanced look at birth and death, privilege and discrimination, and the secret and special connection shared between a grandmother and her granddaughter. Hagerty grew up in Charleston. After reporting and producing the news for both radio and television, she taught communications at The Citadel. When not writing, she works on local environmental and transportation issues. She lives in Charleston with her husband and two daughters.
