COVENTRY, RI — Coventry police made their move to their new headquarters on Monday afternoon as they packed up from Main Street to the new location at 60 Wood Street. The phone number will remain the same at 401-826-1100 along with 911 services. Police asked the public's patience during the moving process, but thanked residents for their support in building the new station. "All the staff at the Coventry Police Department would like to thank the residents of Coventry who invested in the future of our town by voting to build this new facility," the department said in a statement on Monday. "A special sincere thank you to the volunteer members of our Building Committee, Chairman Bill Finnegan, Tom Hetherman and Julie Leddy who work tirelessly to make this day happen. We will be planning to have a public ceremony and open house in the near future." Coventry police will share the building with the town's Department of Human Services. "We look forward to occupying this new space and working alongside our new building partners at the Department of Human Services," Coventry police said. "We hope this unique partnership will pay future dividends as we move forward 'Combining Services Caring for Coventry.'" The new facility combines the Coventry Senior Center, the Coventry Department of Human Services and the police department under a single roof, in a building that used to be an elementary school.
