WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is looking into a person who approached at least two homes in Wesley Chapel claiming to be conducting a mental health survey for the Department of Health and Human Services. On March 16 around 11 a.m., the person approached the homes but, when asked for identification, evaded the question. The man was wearing a ball cap, light-colored pants and a two-toned shirt. He drove a dark gray Toyota Camry with Florida tag 75BICQ. Anyone with information should submit a tip to the Pasco Sheriff's Crime Tips Line at 800-706-2488 and refer to case number 22009559 or submit a tip online at pascosheriff.com/tips. These types of door-to-door solicitation scams may seem legitimate, but they often have another intent, said the sheriff's economic crime unit. Scammers are looking to see who is home during certain times, what information someone may be willing to provide and other information for a scam or theft. Tips: Never feel pressured to answer the door for someone you're not expecting. Ask to see identification before providing any information to the person. Legitimate professionals will carry an ID issued by their workplace and provide it willingly when requested. Never let someone you're not expecting in your home. If you believe someone is attempting to scam you, call law enforcement immediately.
