Parkland Chase Has Deputies Warning Neighbors To Stay Indoors

PARKLAND, WA — A shooting and police pursuit in south Pierce County had the Sheriff's Department briefly warning neighbors to stay inside their homes midday Thursday. At around 1:40 p.m. the Pierce County Sheriff's Department announced heavy police activity near the intersection of 112th Street E and Pacific Ave S, warning everyone nearby to stay indoors, and asking everyone else to steer clear of the immediate area. Just over an hour later, and the Sheriff's Department confirmed it had two suspects in custody, and that residents could safely leave their homes. According to a later update from deputies, the incident began as a shooting in a mobile home park in Spanaway, also located along Pacific Ave S. As law enforcement officers responded to that shooting, they found the suspects feeling in a vehicle, and chased it north into Parkland where it crashed, and the suspects fled on foot. Witnesses reportedly told deputies that the suspects had run into a nearby home and hadn't come out. At that point, deputies put the area on lockdown and started setting up a containment area. Another vehicle then pulled up to the home, and the suspects hopped inside. The car was stopped not far away, and the two suspects, a 23-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, were arrested. A third person, presumably the getaway driver, has been detained for questioning, deputies said. Nobody was injured in either the initial shooting, the crash or the arrest. Detectives are now working to obtain a search warrant for the house to recover any potential evidence from the shooting.
