MANASSAS, VA — In April 2021, Kevin the dog was shot and left for dead in a commuter parking lot. This week, Kevin was adopted from the City of Manassas's animal shelter. On April 26, 2021, Kevin was abandoned outside the Manassas Park VRE station. Someone fired six shots at him, striking him multiple times, police said at the time. Afterwards, Kevin followed the shooter back to a black SUV, authorities said. The SUV drove away, leaving Kevin behind. Bullets left entry and exit wounds in his shoulder, another bullet was lodged in his jaw, and another round mangled one hind leg beyond repair. Surgeries at MedVet were successful. Doctors amputated Kevin's right hind leg, removed the bullet from his jaw, and stitched up his shoulder. Photo by Patty Mattes. The Manassas Park police department has not announced any arrests or charges in connection with Kevin's shooting.
