MIDDLETOWN, CT — A new market recently opened in the former home of Middletown's iconic Public Market grocery store in the city's North End. Middletown Market opened at 480 Main St. to fill the vacancy of a staple grocery store, but also brought a taste of cooked-to-order Filipino cuisine to the area, according to the Middletown Press. Owner Randy Deloso told the Press he chose the Middletown location because there are a lot of Filipino-American employees that work at Middlesex Hospital, and he also wanted to introduce Filipino food to the non-Filipino customers in the area. Middletown Market also offers groceries, fresh produce, meat and fish and more. The former Public Market closed last year after more than 100 years in business after the owner said the business was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.
