HAMDEN, CT — Former Hamden Mayor Curt Balzano Leng has been hired as the new Manager of Development, Grants & Communications for Crossroads Community Planning, the company announced Wednesday. Ohio-based Crossroads Community Planning was founded in 2020 to provide consulting services to local governments and community groups. Crossroads is known for "its expertise in zoning code updates, comprehensive planning, housing and community development experience, strategic communications and economic development strategies," according to a news release. "I am so pleased to join an organization that truly cares about helping communities build for their future, while concurrently protecting their residents and history," Leng said in the news release. "My attraction to government has always been its ability to help people, to help your neighbors, and this will give me the chance to get back to that with an incredible group of talented and experienced people who are doing some really great work for communities across the country." In addition to assisting with Crossroads expanding portfolio of work in Ohio, Leng is tasked with securing additional business in the Northeast Region, starting with Connecticut and Massachusetts. "We are pleased to be able to add to Crossroad's abilities by bringing Mr. Leng on board," Crossroads President Holly Mattei said. "His combination of high-level governmental administrative experience along with his passion for helping communities makes him the ideal partner for our efforts." Mattei noted that Crossroads is currently involved with several communities in a planning role, which has evolved to assisting communities with key administrative activities as communities face new growth challenges. "We are working with many communities on the urban fringe, including those impacted by the new Intel factory in Ohio," Mattei said. "Some of these communities have limited staff, but they are facing the same challenges as more established communities. Mr. Leng's governmental experience will bring a significant boost in our ability to assist these communities to grow their internal abilities while they face development pressures. He also is an expert in grants, which is a critical component of acquiring the funding needed to properly plan for and accommodate growth."
