Description
MARYLAND — Friday is Maryland Day. The holiday marks when European settlers arrived in the state on March 25, 1634. Patch asked readers to share pictures of the state's culture. Here are a few of our favorites. Trish Thomas shared this first photo of her festive mailbox. She styles it with flag decor every March to celebrate. Thomas continued the tradition while she lived in North Carolina for 8 years. She recently moved back to Jarrettsville. This is Thomas' second stint in Harford County. She previously raised her family in Whiteford, where she lived for 37 years. Courtesy of Trish Thomas Margy Hohman submitted the next photo. She teaches second grade at the Open Bible Christian Academy in Kingsville. Hohman's class made these posters to celebrate Maryland Day. They show some of the state's historical and cultural symbols. The class will also sample some of Maryland's iconic foods on Friday. Courtesy of Margy Hohman Other readers appreciated Maryland's beauty. Pat Flaherty sent this picture of Arden-On-The-Severn, a waterfront community near Crownsville. Flaherty calls this photo "Cotton Candy Skyline." Courtesy of Pat Flaherty Mary Lynn Bezek snapped this shot of daffodils in her yard. She loves that the yellow flowers match her Maryland flag. Courtesy of Mary Lynn Bezek Summer means seafood in Maryland. Sheila Miller extends the season even longer. The Hyattsville woman eats crabs on Thanksgiving. Last year, Miller took this picture of crabs in an Old Bay pot at her holiday feast in Clinton. Miller also enjoys turkey and all the other Thanksgiving staples.
