Happy Friday, New Orleans! Let's start today off on an informed note, shall we? Here's everything you need to know today in New Orleans. First, today's weather: Sunny and pleasant. High: 73 Low: 52. Here are the top three stories in New Orleans today: A pickup truck fatally crashed into the West Esplanade canal in Metairie, the driver was found dead at the scene. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances of the accident, and reported that this is the fifth death resulting form a crash in this area in the last four years. (NOLA.com) As tornado relief efforts ensue, it appears that over 150 homes were significantly damaged in the 11 mile path from Gretna to New Orleans East. The tornado caused the death of 25-year-old Conner Lambert, an Arabi resident. (NOLA.com) Three separate shootings occurred on Wednesday leaving five injured and two dead, one of the incidents resulting in the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy. The first shooting occurred around 9am at the intersection of Chef-Menteur Highway and Providence Place where two victims were shot, a male victim died at the scene and the female victim was brought the hospital for treatment. Later, NOPD found the a young boy who had been shot multiple times at the 7900 block of Dorsett Drive. NOPD is investigating these two deaths as homicides. The final shooting occurred on Thalia Street where two people were shot and were brought to the hospital.
