LA GRANGE, IL – Lyons Township High School's ball fields need some maintenance, with at least one of them requiring major repairs, the school said Thursday. At this week's school board meeting, resident James Harrigan said the baseball and softball fields were in bad shape. He provided the board photos. "They're just not safe. Somebody's going to get hurt," he said. "You'll see in the photos the state of the fields. There's glass. There's the bench that has got to be 50 years old." In one case, Harrigan said, a team is required to play away games because its field is in such poor condition. "It's kind of embarrassing that we can't play a home baseball game at Lyons Township High School, much less practice without someone getting hurt," Harrigan said. "I think we deserve better." In response to a Patch email, school spokeswoman Jennifer Bialobok acknowledged issues with the fields. "After a long winter, it's not uncommon for some of the athletic fields to need maintenance," she said in an email. "The freshman boys baseball field is in the process of field repairs in both the infield and outfield. Weather and conditions cooperating, we hope to have the field completed soon."
