Description

The Central Bucks High School West Harlequin Club is excited to welcome audiences to Amélie the Musical March 31-April 3, 2022. Amélie with music by Daniel Messé, lyrics by Nathan Tysen & Daniel Messé and book by Craig Lucas, ran briefly on Broadway in 2017 and has been available for licensing since 2019. The Harlequin Club is proud to be amongst the first schools in the area to present this heartwarming show. Amélie the Musical is based on the 2001 French art film written by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant. After an isolating childhood with overly protective parents, Amélie embarks on her own personal journey of "good deed doing" to find her way as a young woman in contemporary Paris. Much of the show is set in a Parisian café but also includes playful elements like a gnome who comes to life, a goldfish puppet and a character who paints reproductions of famous paintings (created by CB West art students in this production). Beautiful music by Daniel Messé, and heartwarming themes of kindness and courage make Amélie the perfect show for right now. "We are living through difficult times and I knew I wanted to select a show that was positive, bright and full of hope and kindness," remarked Director Jessica Bostock. The show is also in the style of story theater, a favorite of Bostock as it requires strong ensemble participation. Bostock added, "Amélie's world is full of imagination and wonder, which was a beautiful element to play with. At its core the show is about the importance of human connection, and the truthfulness and vulnerability of that is what makes this story so special." Amélie is playing at Central Bucks West High School, 375 West Court Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 and runs Thursday, March 31st through Sunday, April 3rd. Curtain time is 7:00pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday and there is a 2:00 matinee on Sunday. The ticket link can be found at www.cbsd.org/harlequinclub. Adults $15. Children/Seniors $10. Cash or check only at the door.
