FREMONT, CA — The Fremont Walmart store near Stevenson Boulevard was damaged by an arson fire Wednesday night.
There were no immediate reports of injuries. However, the store will be closed until further notice.
"Fremont Police and Fire Department personnel coordinated an evacuation of employees and customers from the store," the Fremont Police Department said in a statement Thursday afternoon. "The preliminary investigation indicates the incident was an arson that was associated with a burglary involving multiple suspects. Detectives from the Fremont Police Department have taken over the investigation and are reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses in order to identify the suspects."

Walmart released a statement Thursday for shoppers, especially those who have prescriptions at the pharmacy, " As an essential store to our community, our goal is to assess any damage and reopen our Fremont store as quickly as possible," the statement read. "In the meantime, we are working with our store at 44009 Osgood Road to temporarily manage our customers' shopping and pharmacy needs. The store's pharmacy can be reached at (510)651-3301."

The fire was reported around 8 p.m. The fire department wrapped up operations after midnight.
Walmart is also offering shifts to its workers at the damaged store. "Additionally, we are offering options to return to work on-site to help with recovery efforts," the company said in its statement.
