WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police have arrested a local man after a series of nighttime Canal District break-ins this month. The series began on March 15 with break-ins at El Patron and Tom's Deli, police said. A surveillance camera captured a third break on Tuesday just before 5 a.m. at Maddi's Taphouse along Water Street, police said. The video showed a man wearing dark clothes throwing a rock through the restaurant's door, police said. He wasn't able to get inside, however. Police circulated the video internally, and identified the suspect as a 54-year-old Fairmont Avenue resident. Police arrested him near Kelley Square around 2 a.m. Wednesday. He was charged with breaking an entering in the night to commit a felony and vandalism in connection to the Maddi's Taphouse incident. The other two break-ins are still under investigation, police said.
