Salary: $19.08 per hour* *A 3% Salary Adjustment is Expected Starting July 1, 2022 Posted: March 23, 2022 Filing Deadline: Open Until Filled The recruitment may be closed at any time DESCRIPTION We have an exciting opportunity available for a Water Quality Intern. This assignment is for a 40 hour week. Duration of assignment is for up to 6 months. The position operates out of MMWD’s Corte Madera location. THE POSITION: WATER QUALITY INTERN: (1 position) Under direction of the Water Quality Laboratory Manager, assists in laboratory and field operations, such as distribution system and reservoir water sampling, reservoir algae investigations and reservoir algae treatments, data entry, documentation drafting and additional miscellaneous water quality tasks. Throughout the internship, gain understanding of water quality laboratory methods, drinking water regulations, overall water treatment plant operations and distribution of drinking and recycled water. Uses sampling equipment such as a chlorine test kit, temperature gauge, and a datasonde with hand-held surveyor. Performs office tasks, such as mapping sampling points, drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and reports, working with data entry applications, and scanning documents. Additionally, performs maintenance and clean-up work as needed. Safety Boots required. Work hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position is for up to a six (6) month duration at the Corte Madera location. Anticipated Start Date: Late June/early July 2022. Apply immediately for consideration. Desired Background: Must be 18 years old or older and have a California Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record. Must be able to perform moderate physical work, climb tank ladders, safely operate a 4-wheel drive truck, and tow a small trailer. Education and knowledge in the areas of water quality, chemistry, water treatment, biology, and/or environmental sciences, and some knowledge of limnology preferred. Knowledge of, and experience with, water quality sampling and equipment: datasonde use, maintenance, and calibration; dissolved oxygen and chlorine field analyzers, etc. Must be able to write clearly and concisely. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows, LIMS, GIS, and operation of office equipment. Must be detail oriented. Ability and willingness to work safely with pesticides; California State Water Resources Control Board Drinking Water Distribution Operator License highly desirable. Desired skills include ability to work independently and efficiently, work as a team player, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to swim 100 feet and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely operate a boat with an outboard motor is preferred as well. Due to the driving requirements of this position, a DMV Form H-6 is required if applicant moves forward in the process.
