(April 27, 2020)
(April 27, 2020) — Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke announced initiatives to assist local small businesses and social service agencies.
In partnership with the Indiana Small Business Development Center, the City of Evansville is utilizing $100,000 in funds from an existing revolving loan program for zero-interest loans to provide financial assistance to small business owners and entrepreneurs affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
"Local small businesses are facing unprecedented challenges throughout this crisis," said Mayor Winnecke. "This initiative a step in the right direction to keep these businesses in operation."
Approval is being sought at the Monday, April 27 meeting.
"This initiative is just the first step in providing resources to Evansville's business community," said Deputy Mayor Steve Schaefer. "Our Reopen Evansville Task Force will continue to develop ways to assist all local businesses moving forward."
Council members will also vote on more than $790,000 in new federal Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG), announced earlier in April by Mayor Winnecke and Department of Metropolitan Development Executive Director Kelley Coures.
ESG funds are designated for organizations providing programming to help homeless diversion and shelter facilities. Recipients include Aurora, Inc., United Caring Services, Albion Fellows Bacon Center, House of Bread and Peace, Ozanam and YWCA.
