Press release from the City of Evansville: (December 22, 2020) — The City of Evansville is celebrating the holiday season with the planting of 212 trees in public places. The plantings are thanks to the combined effort of the City of Evansville and its Department of Urban Forestry, the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Solid Waste District, CenterPoint Energy and other private donations. The trees will be planted in downtown tree wells, city parks, cemeteries, boulevards and other public areas. Among the private donations are 14 trees designated for planting in Garvin Park, a gift of Evansville resident Chester Rycroft. The balance of the 37 new trees for Garvin Park are being funded by the Solid Waste District. "We are proud of our combined effort to increase the canopy across the city, creating a healthier, more attractive community, said City Arborist Shawn Dickerson. "This year-end tree planting effort not only is a fun way to celebrate the holidays, but it also marks the culmination of our 20th anniversary as a Tree City USA," Dickerson said. The Solid Waste District is donating another 48 trees for planting in Burdette Park. This press release was produced by the City of Evansville. The views expressed here are the author's own.
