MORRISVILLE, PA — Two dozen sick cats were rescued Tuesday evening after being found living in an unheated car in Morrisville. According to the Bucks County SPCA, Chief Humane Police Officer Nikki Thompson had been searching for the vehicle for two days after receiving an online tip. "What she found was disturbing," Bucks SPCA said in an online post. "The cats were cold, thirsty, underweight and in poor condition." The 24 cats were taken to the SPCA's shelter in Lahaska for warmth and safety. The group says they "gratefully emptied multiple water and food bowls." The group said all of the cats will be examined by its veterinary team to begin treatments. The cats had been collected from the property of an apartment building by their owner, who agreed to surrender the animals to the SPCA. Once they are healthy, they can be placed for adoption, the group said. "We will continue to work with the individual to prevent a repeat of this kind of hoarding situation," the group's post said. Linda Reider, executive director of Bucks County SPCA, thanked community members for helping end the cats' suffering. "We are grateful for people who speak up on behalf of those who have no voice," she said. "Thanks to a tip received by Officer Thompson, two dozen sick and hungry cats were spared another night of exposure to below-freezing temperatures. They are now safe and warm, and getting much-needed medical care from our team."
