Description

The Centennial International Birthing Kits Release Ceremony will be held on April 2, 2022 in-person at the Sankofa Museum. In celebration of our 100 years of public service, under our International Awareness and Involvement thrust, the Birthing Kits initiative addresses maternal needs of Women across the African Diaspora. Members of the Baltimore Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and our community volunteers have assembled lifesaving Birthing Kits for women in targeted countries where prenatal care is minimum. This initiative has proven to decrease the mortality of newborns in Africa where there is a higher risk at dying in the first 4 weeks of life, and even on the day of birth. One in thirteen African mothers die of causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. It is our hope to shift the outcomes to Life After Childbirth. This aid has the potential to save two lives: mother and newborn. We invite you to celebrate with us as we release the birthing kits to their destinations and acknowledge our donors and supporters. There is limited spaces to participate in-person. We will also have ZOOM available for those who would like to participate on-line and for our out of town and international guests.
