FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — By the end of this year, Bucks County is set to be home to a first-of-its kind Wawa store. Local government officials joined brass from Wawa on Tuesday to break ground on the store, at 549 West Trenton Rd. in Falls Township. The Wawa, at the intersection with Pine Grove Road, will be a drive-through, the first of a new concept for the convenience store chain. Company officials said Tuesday they are shooting to open by December. At Tuesday's ceremony, Wawa gave bagged lunches to healthcare workers and first responders and presented two checks, for $1,000 each, to St. Francis Cabrini Church and Mary's Cupboard, who both run food banks. Wawa officials say the new store design is part the company's efforts to experiment with alternatives to its traditional store models. "We are hoping to learn from the layout, workflow and traffic flow at this location," Terri Micklin, Wawa's director of construction, said when the store was first announced in July. "We continue to explore alternatives for longer term application to our stores post-COVID-19." The drive-through will focus on fresh food as well as typical convenience store items. Curbside pickup service also will be available, the company said. A similar Wawa currently is under construction in Westhampton, N.J.
