YARDLEY, PA — A Hollywood actor who hails from Yardley shared one of Bucks County's annual Christmas traditions with a national audience during a TV appearance this week. Zach Woods, best known for his roles on "Silicon Valley" and "The Office," appeared on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live." During his interview, Woods was surprised when, after mentioning Yardley, a cheer went up from members of the studio audience. "There's no way!" he said, laughing. "That's just a little collection of liars." When Kimmel asked him about the place he grew up, Woods quickly brought up the annual reenactment of Gen. George Washington's historic crossing of the Delaware River during the Revolutionary War. "That happened very near to where I grew up," he said. "And, every year, at Christmas ... they reenact that and it's a big deal." Anyone familiar with Woods' acting won't be surprised he quickly found something funny about the whole thing. "They're very stringent about the standards of historical authenticity," Woods said. "I went one year and when you drive by, you see these guys who have been rejected because they're not authentic enough. You'll see like, all these guys who are wearing like, you know, deerskin frocks and have muskets. But they're wearing, like, New Balance sneakers, just sadly checking their phones on the side." He also joked about the reenactment's nod to real-world safety. "And if the river is frozen, they don't go across the river," Woods said. "They just carry the boat across a bridge — which I think is a little bit of a cop out." His tale about the yearly reenactment led Kimmel to ask a pretty obvious question: As an established actor from the area, would Woods ever consider portraying Washington in the crossing? "I think I'm more of a starved Abe Lincoln," Woods replied. Woods was on the show promoting "Avenue 5," a new, futuristic space comedy which premiers on HBO on Sunday.
