Description

Join Master Gardener Carrie Blair on this spring hike to learn how to identify trees in our local woodlands. Due to the popularity of Carrie's hiking series, she will be offering five additional hikes this spring. This hike is the second in this five part series. This class will be held on WEDNESDAY, April 6th from 1:00-2:30 p.m. The hike will be at Silvermont Park. If you enjoy spending time outside and wonder what kinds of trees you are seeing, we have just the program for you. Carrie Blair, Master Naturalist, and Master Gardener will lead a series of four hikes in Brevard area forests and greenspaces where she will discuss methods of identifying trees with and without their leaves. She will focus on the physical characteristics of trees including bark, form, branch pattern, buds, leaf scars, seeds, and leaves.Participants will meet at the hike location parking lot no later than 1:00 p.m. on the day of the hike. Due to the number of attendees, dogs will not be allowed on the hikes. And don't forget to dress for the weather. The hikes will be appropriate for those with any level of experience in winter tree id and will not be strenuous. Participation is limited to 15 people, age 16 and up. Carrie will provide handouts and have a wide variety of tree identification books available for sale. Carrie presented her Tree ID program last summer for the Master Gardeners and has led hundreds of plant identification hikes. In addition to being a NC and VA Master Gardener and a VA Master Naturalist, Carrie is a Past President of the Piedmont Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society, has served as a docent for the State Arboretum of Virginia, and is a member of the NC Native Plant Society, the Georgia Botanical Society, the Western Carolina Botanical Club, MountainTrue, Conserving Carolina, and the Pisgah Conservancy.
