WAUKESHA, WI — Waukesha's finance committee voted Tuesday to recommend spending federal relief funds to buy a car barrier system that could stop a delivery truck. The city council will meet in April for a final decision. If the council follows Tuesday's unanimous vote, the city will request $800,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act to buy the barrier system. Committee members wanted a barrier that could prevent cars from getting into events like Friday Night Live and the Christmas parade. The barriers don't need to be dug into the ground, allow pedestrians to pass easily, and are designed to block an incoming car's forward momentum, the agenda said. The city had searched for security measures to use during festivals and parades, city administrator Kevin Lahner said at a meeting. Committee members watched a video describing the modular vehicle barrier, called MBV for short. The video showed the yellow and black barrier stop a pickup truck and a delivery truck at full speed.
