YARDLEY, PA — A driver was arrested in Yardley last week for DUI and hit-and-run after striking the rider of a moped on River Road, according to police. At about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, an officer was patrolling the Washington Crossing section of Upper Makefield when the rider of a moped was seen leaning over the vehicle and apparently injured. Officers learned that the rider had been going south on Rt. 532 when, as they crossed River Road, they were hit by a car that was heading south. The impact knocked the rider all the way through the intersection, police said. Officers alerted neighboring police departments and the car was found and stopped in Yardley. Investigators determined it was the same car that hit the moped rider and the driver was arrested on charges of DUI, driving with a DUI-related license suspension and other charges, police said. According to Upper Makefield Police, the moped rider was not seriously injured. "However, this incident could have ended tragically," they said in a social media post. "Once again, we ask that if you drink, that you do not drive."
