Description

Press release from the Pierce County Government: March 17, 2022 May we all draw inspiration from Deputy Dominique "Dom" Calata, who embodied servant leadership. Whether through his deployments with the U.S. Army, his commitment to the National Guard or his employment with the Sheriff's Department and the Edgewood Police Department, it is clear Deputy Calata found happiness in helping and protecting others. His death is a painful reminder of the sacrifice law enforcement make every day to keep our community safe. The Pierce County Council extends condolences to Deputy Calata's family, friends and our Sheriff's Department who lost a loved one and colleague. Our hearts are also with Sgt. Rich Scaniffe, who is recovering from his injuries while mourning the loss of a colleague and friend. Legacy Fund The Sheriff's Department has shared information about a legacy fund established to support Deputy Calata's family. Cash and check donations will be accepted at TAPCO Credit Union. Donations can be made to the PayPal account. 100% of donations will go to the family. Memorials/Public Gatherings Memorials are set up in front of the PCSD South Hill Precinct (271 John Bananola Way E) and the Edgewood Police Department (2224 104th Ave E). The public can leave flowers or messages, or even just gather to show support. This press release was produced by the Pierce County Government. The views expressed here are the author's own.
