NORWICH, CT — A veterans organization is helping a local restaurant following major damage from a fire. Easterseals Veterans is allowing Uncle D's Blazin' BBQ to use its commercial-grade kitchen to prepare food so that the restaurant can continue with catering jobs. Uncle D's Blazin' BBQ also owns a food truck so with the use of a kitchen they are now able to prepare and serve meals daily to keep their business going while the restaurant is repaired. "This is a perfect of example of how VRP is here to help our Military community in any way we can," Ron Welch, VP of Military Services at Easterseals Capital Region & Eastern CT, said in a statement. Uncle D's owners Angy and Dwayne, who is a veteran of the US Navy, knew of the new Easterseals Veterans Rally Point in Norwich, which is where the kitchen is located. Easterseals's mission is the successful reintegration of Active Military, National Guard, Reserve, Veterans, and their families into all aspects of civilian life, according to the statement. The second-alarm fire broke out at the 146 W. Town St. restaurant Feb. 10. The fire started inside a smoker at Uncle D's Blazin BBQ at 146 W. Town St. See related: Norwich Restaurant Damaged In 2-Alarm Fire: Report
