BROOKLINE, MA — Brookline for Racial Justice and Equity (BRJE) will host the 2022 Racial Justice Candidate Forum on Monday, April 11 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom. The event moderators will be Emy Takinami and Kimberley Richardson of BRJE, who will ask a series of questions to candidates running for public office in Brookline. Their questions will push the candidates to provide a deeper understanding of their own experiences and policy proposals. "In recent days, students from The African American and Latino Scholars Program (AALSP)have written a seering condemnation of how the School administration has handled racistincidents," said BRJE in a news release. "Angry and upset, students have walked out of the High School. The School Committee held a meeting yesterday to discuss all this where many from the community expressed outrage and disappointment." "Brookline is in crisis," they continued. "Brookline residents are looking for leadership to meet this moment." Candidates participating in the forum include Select Board candidate Michael Sandman and School Committee candidates Helen Charlupski, Steven Ehrenberg, Valerie Frias, and Nancy Rhei Rorer. Brookline's annual town election will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd. The last day to register to vote in this election is Wednesday, April 13 at 8 p.m. and the last day to apply for an absenteeballot is Wednesday, April 27 at 5 p.m. by mail or Monday, May 2 at 12 p.m. in person.
