Press release from Where the Love Is Animal Rescue : March 23, 2022 Usually the folks at CrossPoint Federal Credit Union spend their days helping customers save for a new home or car, a wedding or adopting a child. Now New Haven-area CrossPoint employees can add one more financial success story to their resume: raising enough money to pay for adoption fees and training sessions for an abandoned dog currently sheltered at Where the Love Is animal rescue in Hamden. The donation will sponsor the adoption fee for one fortunate Where the Love Is dog as the organization will "pay it forward" to continue to honor Betty White and her love of animals. Employees of CrossPoint, which provides financial services to credit union members at four branch locations, raised $527.00 as part of the Betty White Birthday Challenge, which asked animal lovers across the United States to donate to local animal shelters for what would have been White's 100th birthday on Jan. 17, 2022. CrossPoint is matching dollar for dollar for a total of $1,054.00. White was well known for her love of animals. She died on Dec. 31, 2021 at age 99. "CrossPoint understands the important roles pets play in families and in the community. We love supporting Where the Love Is in its mission to help pets in need of love and care." Muniz said that employees Michelle Hoffman and Sandy Bohannon, CrossPoint branch managers in Branford and New Haven, respectively, and Cheryl Rich, vice president of administration in Hamden, joined together to encourage others in the company to participate in the challenge. CrossPoint became involved with Where the Love Is through its relationship with FullPowerRadio, the company behind about a dozen Connecticut radio stations. FullPowerRadio sponsors pet adoption events throughout the year for Where the Love Is. Where the Love Is has been rescuing abandoned animals from "high-kill" pounds since 2013. The volunteer organization operates a small shelter to house rescued dogs and cats until they are placed with a temporary foster family or adopted. One hundred percent of donations goes toward medical care, food, training and shelter. Adoption fees range from $325 for an elderly dog or $100 for an elderly cat to $625 for a puppy or $825 for a purebred dog. "Partners like CrossPoint help us keep the love going," said Where the Love Is Marketing and Fundraising Director Tanya Weinberg. "As a completely volunteer organization, we depend on generous donors like CrossPoint to fund the continuum of love that is needed from the day our dogs are rescued to the day they go home with their new adoptive family." CrossPoint has 18 employees who own pets and who are allowed to bring them to work from time to time, Muniz said. Being animal lovers, employees frequently volunteer at Where the Love Is adoption events and Branford Branch Manager Michelle Hoffman adopted a dog from the rescue organization. "CrossPoint also promotes WTLI events regularly on its social media pages, through word of mouth to members coming into our lobbies and in bi-weekly email blasts to our members," Muniz said. Not only does CrossPoint help Where the Love Is provide care and feeding to animals in need, it also has savings programs that can be geared towards saving for pet needs and expenditures, Muniz said. "Our club accounts can help members automatically save for things that are pet related," he added. This press release was produced by Where the Love Is Animal Rescue.
