ANDOVER, MA —Human remains found last month in Andover have been identified as a Lawrence man who has been missing since 2015, Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said Wednesday.
Police identified the remains as Lorne Casey, who was reported missing to the Lawrence Police Department on April 27, 2015.
On Feb. 21, a dog walker called Andover police after finding what they thought were human remains near Route 28 and 495 N in a wooded area. Officers who responded to the scene confirmed to find the skull, jaw, arm and leg bone, were human.
The Essex State Police Detective Unit, Andover Police and Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services, and other units conducted an additional search of the area later in the week and located additional remains.
According to Lawrence police, Casey was a registered sex offender and had been arrested for performing a sexual act in front of a woman in 2012.
Casey was last seen was walking between his apartment in Lawrence and a friend's apartment in Andover, police said. Lorne's cell phone was found near his friend's apartment, but it wasn't clear if that's where he vanished.
Lorne's family told Boston 25 told he made a final call from a Lawrence gas station on April 25, telling his friend he had lost his cell phone two days before he went missing.
The matter remains under investigation.
