Driver Arrested After Crashing Into Spotsylvania Cop Car: Police

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A car crashed into a Spotsylvania County deputy's patrol car on Monday night, according to the sheriff's office. A driver faces DUI and reckless driving charges. The crash occurred around 10 p.m. on Monday night. Before the crash, a deputy was in his patrol car at the intersection of Courthouse Road and Leavells Road. The on-duty deputy was waiting for the traffic light to turn green when another a truck rammed into the back of his patrol car. Police said the truck, a Toyota Tacoma, was speeding before striking the deputy's car. In their investigation, deputies determined that the driver of the truck was impaired. Authorities identified the driver as 37-year-old Berganza Salazar. Salazar was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license, and reckless driving. The deputy suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said. He received medical treatment at a nearby hospital and was released. Have a story idea?
