WESTFIELD, NJ — A woman reported to Westfield Police that she was shot at with plastic pellets from an airsoft gun last week. According to police, the resident from the 100 block of East Broad Street was struck several times in the torso as she walking on Wednesday, March 16 at around 10:40 p.m. She told police that the suspects drove up alongside her and shot at her with an airsoft gun — also known as a BB gun. Police said the woman was unharmed and did not require medical attention. The suspects drove off in a dark-colored sedan and were not located. This is the second incident within the past few weeks that a drive-by pellet gun shooting took place in Westfield. Two kids were shot at by a pellet gun in the area of Broad and Prospect streets on Saturday, March 5. Both kids were also uninjured, according to police. In recent related news, Westwood Police investigated an "Orbeez Challenge" incident on Friday involving a minor. This challenge is a new TikTok "trend" that encourages people to shoot Orbeez pellets at others with a gel blaster gun or other toy gun. Orbeez are small gel beads that grow exponentially when placed in water. Westwood Police encouraged parents to talk with with their children about why these challenges are dangerous in a Facebook post. Police said these pellets can cause injury to others or to property.
