Motorcyclist Killed In Rossville Crash Identified As Firefighter

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — The motorcyclist who died in a crash on Rossville Boulevard has been identified as a Baltimore City firefighter. "We are deeply saddened to announce the death of one of our members EMT/FF Preston Coddington, who passed away Friday afternoon after being involved in an off-duty accident," the Baltimore City Fire Department said in a statement. "Coddington protected this community. We are praying for his loved ones." Coddington had been riding his 2010 Harley-Davidson Road King around 1:30 p.m. on Friday when his motorcycle collided with a 2007 Cadillac DTS on Rossville Boulevard, according to police. Officials said Coddington was headed west on Rossville Boulevard, and the Cadillac was turning east onto Rossville Boulevard from Belridge Road. "At this point, the investigation remains open," Baltimore County Police Public Affairs Director Joy Stewart told Patch on Tuesday. "Fatal crash investigations can take up to several months to be completed." Police said Coddington, 42, was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Coddington (nee Cathcart), and their children, Isaiah and Charlotte; his mother, Clara Coddington (nee Sweitzer) and stepfather Carl Lee; his half-brother Randy Sweitzer; and his uncle, Artie Sweitzer. He also leaves behind many friends and extended families within the Baltimore City Fire Department and Chosen Sons Motorcycle Club, according to his obituary. Visitation will be from 2–4 and 6–8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home of Dundalk at 7922 Wise Avenue. A funeral service is slated for 10 a.m. on Friday, March 25, at Columbus Gardens 4301 Klosterman Ave., Nottingham, MD 21236. A graveside service and internment are set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, in Garrett County at George Cemetery, 2308 Swanton Rd., Swanton, MD 21561.
