Description

Press release from Salt Lake County District Attorney: March 18, 2022 Today marks the first day of National Gun Violence Survivors Week Monday February 1- Sunday February 7. We want to take a moment and acknowledge all of those in our community that have been made survivors of gun violence and all those we have lost. That statistics are scary. 58 percent of American adults are survivors of gun violence. The United States has a gun death rate 11 times hirer than other high-income nations. Even in Salt Lake County we have seen children in our schools' become survivors as well as police officers shot in the line of duty. "Every time there is a loss of life, or someone is the victim of gun violence we have to take it seriously. I refuse to become numb or let this sad norm become common place. This week I am making a plea to our community, please lock up your guns. Lawful gun owners I am calling on you to help us stop gun violence or at least slow it. This won't solve the problem overnight, and there is much more work to be done. But if one less person, one less family knows what its like to experience gun violence that is a start." Said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill In October last year the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office formalized a practice of no longer be offering plea deals to people committing violent crime with a firearm.
