Press release from the City of Austin: March 21, 2022 This Women's History Month, the Austin Transportation Department (ATD) is recognizing a few of the leading women in the department and their significant contributions to our city. Judith Olvera, C.D., an engineer associate with the Right of Way Management division, is the first City of Austin employee and the first Hispanic woman to be elected to the board of the American Public Works Association (APWA). After Olvera presented research she directed for the American Traffic Safety Services Association at a February conference in Tampa, Florida, the APWA board invited her to a traffic control workshop and invited her to join the board. As the new Director of Education for the Texas chapter of the APWA, Olvera will continue sharing information to other municipalities about traffic control and safety. Amica Bose joined ATD as an engineer in 2015, working on the first batch of Vision Zero and Intersection Safety projects throughout 2015 and 2016 and helping to increase funding for safety improvements that save lives on Austin streets. Bose rose through the ranks and became the division manager of the newly formed Project Delivery Division, which she demonstrated was a necessity for the department. Join us in honoring the efforts of these women and the countless others who dedicate their lives to making Austin streets safer. This press release was produced by the City of Austin.
