Waterloo Road Bridge: Repairs To Start Next Week

NETCONG, NJ — Work is set to begin Monday, Feb. 3, on the Waterloo Road Bridge, which spans Netcong, Mount Olive and Stanhope. According to a press release from Morris County, replacing the bridge will require a 2.5-mile detour for about nine months. The detour will encompass Continental Drive, Route 46, Ledgewood Avenue, Main Street and Kelly Place, the county said. The bridge was originally built in 1894. It's being replaced because rust and age have rendered it "structurally deficient and functionally obsolete," the press release stated. The new bridge will be constructed from pre-stressed concrete box beams, stone-faced concrete abutments and wing walls, a concrete deck, curbs and bridge railings, according to the release. But, according to the release, local historians need not worry as original trusses will be restored and maintained. The $2.3 million project is state-funded and is expected to be complete in nine months.
