PROVIDENCE, RI — A gunshot was fired through a patient's window at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence Wednesday morning, according to police.
Providence police Commander Thomas Verdi said the shooting happened around 2:45 a.m., when a bullet went through a seventh floor bridge building, went into the ceiling and then ricocheted onto the floor.
Verdi said a patient was in the room at the time, but was not injured.
Police searched the area for the shooter, but the suspect remains at-large.
"We did a very thorough search, but didn't find anything," Verdi said.
Verdi said police believe the shooting was a random act and not connected to the patient.
