JOLIET, IL —The man fatally hit by an SUV Monday in Joliet has been identified as 39-year-old Derek Walsh, the Will County Coroner's office said Wednesday morning.
Walsh, a pedestrian, was struck by the SUV just before 3:30 p.m. Monday in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Plainfield Road. Police said a woman was arguing with Walsh after she struck his parked motorcycle. As he approached her SUV, she accelerated and drove into him, causing "extensive injuries," according to police.
She fled before police arrived. On Tuesday, police said her SUV had been located abandoned, but she had not yet been found. The SUV was impounded as evidence.
Walsh was rushed to AMITA Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was pronounced dead at 5:16 p.m. Monday.
Joliet police continue to investigate the incident.
