Press release from Hopkins Public Schools: March 23, 2022 Meet Rachel Volkmann, a fifth grade teacher from Gatewood Elementary who was recently named Semifinalist for MN Teacher of the Year by Education Minnesota! Rachel's scholars attest to her straight-forward, interactive, and collaborative teaching style that begs them to think critically and examine complex issues relating to themselves and their community. Rachel credits fellow Gatewood staff and Principal Dr. George Nolan for facilitating an environment that promotes Anti-Racist education allowing her to create a safe classroom that elevates it's diverse voices and perspectives. A total of 25 semi finalists were narrowed down from an initial field of 77 candidates. Rachel should find out soon if she moves on to the next round!
